Cetho temple is an ancient Javanese-Hindu temple that was built in the 15th century.
This temple is located on the slope of Mount Lawu (northwest) at 1.496 meters above sea level (ASL).
Cetho temple is one of the highest temples in Java beside Arjuna temple, Gedong Song temple, and Ijo Temple.
The exact location of this temple is in the Ceto hamlet, Gumeng village, Jenawi area, Karanganyar regency.
This temple is being used by the locals and Hindu pilgrims as worshipping place. People who learn Kejawen also use this place for meditation.
Because of the lack of records, many historians feel difficult to interpret the significance of this temple.
If visitors want to visit this temple, make sure the vehicle is in good condition. This is because the road is winding and there is a cliff on the side of the road.
Even though visitors have to prepare a lot, visitors will be spoiled with a beautiful scenery along the road.
There are also a lot of restaurants on the way to the temple if they’re tired and hungry.
When arrived at the temple, visitors have to pay an Rp7.000 for an entrance fee. The price is different for foreign tourists, which is Rp25.000.
After that, Poleng cloth will be given to visitors in order to protect the sanctity of the temple.
The panorama in this temple is exquisite with lush green trees on the area.
But, many new visitors surprised because there is a strong incense smell in this temple. This is because many Hindu people in Java pray on this temple. Incense is used by people as a tool for praying in Hinduism.
