Lor Temple is a temple made of red brick. Many people in the Nganjuk area believe that this temple is the root of Nganjuk and people always hold a ceremony on April 10th every year.
Lor Temple is located on Candirejo village, Loceret district, around 4 kilometers south of Nganjuk.
This temple is erected on an open field near the rice field with an area of 1.654-meter square.
The temple itself is around 142.60-meter square and its height is around 9.30 meters.
According to history, this temple was founded by Mpu Sendok in 859 Caka or 937 AD.
Mpu Sendok is the King of Mataram Hindu with title Sri Maharaja Sri Isyana Wikrama Dharmottunggadewa.
He commands his retainers Rakai Hinu Sahasra, Rakai Baliswara, and Rakai Kanuruhan to built a holy site called Srijayamerta.
The purpose of that building was to make the Anjuk Ladang area (now is Nganjuk) as a Swantarta area because the people helped him in war.
In the vicinity of Lor Temple, there are two graves of Abdi Dalem (close retainers) named Eyang Kerto and Eyang Kerti.
This temple also has a big Kepuh tree (Java olive tree) from 1866, based on the writing from Hoepermans.
When visitors come to this temple, they have to write their names in a guest book, but there is no ticket fee.
Even though this place is free of ticket fees, the temple is still good and maintained.
But, the main building itself is not in perfect condition because the temple is made of red brick that is not that durable.
Lor Tempe is open every day from 8 AM to 3 PM.
