Gajah Mungkur Reservoir is one of the icons of the Wonogiri Regency. The reservoir stretches for about 8,800 hectares covering seven sub-districts, namely Wonogiri, Ngadirojo, Nguntoronadi, Baturetno, Giriwoyo, Eromoko, and Wuryantoro.
Ticket and Route
To enter the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area, the fare is Monday-Saturday IDR 10,000 while on Sundays and holidays are IDR 12,000.
Tourists who want to visit Gajah Mungkur Reservoir can use private vehicles or public transportation. If you use the train, you can directly get off the Wonogiri Station and immediately look for an angkot that goes to the tourist sites. If using a bus, you can get off at Wonogiri Bus Terminal and just take public transportation “angkot” that goes to Pracimantoro.
Gajah Mungkur Reservoir’s Function
Gajah Mungkur has a lot of benefits, especially for the community around the reservoir. Here are some uses of this reservoir:
- As a flood control when Bengawan Solo river reaches a maximum capacity of the river channel downstream
- To reserve drinking water around Wonogiri City and surrounding areas
- To Generates electricity from a hydropower plant of 12.4 MegaWatt which is controlled by PLN
The tourist area is visited by both tourists from domestic and abroad.
Another thing that can be done at Gajah Mungkur Reservoir is to take a lap around the waters of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir. If you want to try, you just have to come to the dock area inside the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area. Later, visitors can take a lap around the reservoir using boats or speed boats. To ride a boat, visitors only need to pay Rp 10,000 per person, whereas if you want to take a fast boat the choice costs Rp 150,000 (route to the Wonogiri Plaza area) and Rp 100,000 (route to Karamba).
